I have been down to Nashville countless times over the years and for the past 10 or so, I have stopped by Financial Peace Plaza in Brentwood, TN (15 minutes south of Nashville), hoping for the opportunity to watch as Dave performs his live daily radio show. This past June, I was finally able to meet him. He is the host of The Dave Ramsey Show, which is all about life and money. Dave takes calls from people all over the country to help them through financial problems and celebrate with them when they achieve financial freedom.
There are so many things I have learned from Dave that I cannot even begin to list them all. But, one huge take-away from Dave is his firm stance on work-place gossip and how it poisons your team. It is human nature for people to talk to each other about situations, but that does not mean we have to put up with it when it becomes poisonous and irresponsible. Gossip pushes people away from each other instead of bringing them together.
Gossip is defined as discussing (verbally or nonverbally) anything negative with someone who can’t help solve the problem. Gossip has a way of destroying a team and until it is cut out, there is no way for the team to heal.
